About the Author O G Palanna obtained his PhD in solid-state chemistry from IIT Bombay, in 1975. He has been working as Professor and Head in the Department of Chemistry, RNS Institute of Technology, Bangalore, since 2004. He has 47 years of teaching experience in engineering chemistry, during that period he was a professor and HOD of the Department of Chemistry, St Philomena College, Puttur, Karnataka, where he taught chemistry for 35 years. He was the Director (Academics), Vice-Principal, Professor and HOD of chemistry, AMC Engineering College, Bangalore, for 4 years. He was also a professor and HOD of chemistry, East-West College of Engineering, Bangalore for a year. His fields of research are materials science, electrochemistry, rechargeable lithium ion cells, fuel cells, supercapacitors and corrosion science. He has a number of research papers to his credit in national and international journals. He has also authored a few books in chemistry.
